The book caused quite an uproar when it was released and I can understand why it had such an effect on people as it is very unsettling. Haunted: A Novel is a completely different kettle of fish and it is the work of Fight Club author, Chuck Palahniuk. Unsettled displays an enormous breadth of learning, bringing together many disciplines that give us a richly textured insight into the Jewish people throughout history, and he presents this in the framework of a very personal, almost painful search for understanding. The question he raises at the beginning of the book, why have we paid so much.
